CSAH 29 Reconstruction
Benton County and the City of Sartell have developed construction plans that include the replacement and upgrade of City-owned utilities and reconstruction of the CSAH 29 (1st Street NE). Improvements are needed to replace the failing pavement surface and provide a left-turn lane to reduce congestion. In addition the intersection of CSAH 29 and CSAH 33 (Benton Drive) will receive operational improvements in the form of a traffic signal.
The County hired SRF Consulting to prepare the construction plans for the County portion of the project. The City of Sartell used their Consulting Engineer, SEH to prepare the construction plans for the City-owned utilities that will be incorporated into the project. The funding for the project is coming from the County’s State Aid (gas tax) allocation. The City is funding their portion of the project with local funds.
CSAH 29 (1st Street NE Sartell) Bridge over Mississippi River
A traffic pattern switch will be happening today on the CSAH 29/Mississippi River bridge in Sartell. Traffic will be switched to driving on the south side of the bridge. There will still be one lane of traffic in each direction. Lanes will still be narrow and the work zone speed limit will still be 20 MPH. Drivers should slow down and be vigilant in work zones.
Additionally the sidewalk on the north side of the bridge will be closed and inaccessible to pedestrian traffic. This is necessary to reconstruct the concrete barrier wall and pedestrian railing on top of the barrier wall.
The sidewalk is expected to be open when the work is completed by mid-November 2018. Questions can be directed to Benton County Engineer Chris Byrd @ 320-968-5051. Project updates can be found on the Highway Department Facebook page (www.facebook.com/bchwy.projects).
