Probation

Overview

Benton County Probation is a State Contract Office providing Court Services to Benton County. The mission of Benton County Probation along with the Minnesota Department of Corrections is to hold offenders accountable and offer opportunities for change while restoring justice for victims and contributing to a safer Minnesota. Probation staff accomplish this by:

  • Fostering community partnerships
  • Optimizing best practices
  • Creating a respectful diverse culture
  • Utilizing effective communication
  • Strategic and efficient use of resources

Responsibilities

Benton County Probation provides supervision to juvenile and adult misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor offenders. Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Alcohol problems assessments
  • Bail studies
  • Coordinating placement of offenders into appropriate community and residential programs
  • Discharge reports
  • Domestic abuse assessments
  • Electronic monitoring
  • Probation violation reports
  • Progress reports
  • Random drug testing and completing necessary reports to assist the Court such as pre-dispositional reports

Additional services include:

  • The completion of restitution studies,
  • Supervision and operation of a juvenile work crew,
  • Referral of offenders to selected educational and treatment based programs based on their individual needs,
  • Attendance at staffings in the schools and residential programs
  • Restitution collection
  • Completion of the Domestic Violence Inventory
