Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory disease that was first detected in China on December 31, 2019 and has now been detected in almost 90 locations internationally, including in the United States. While many cases may be mild to moderate with symptoms similar to colds and flu, some cases may be more severe. The risk of severe illness seems to be higher for older people and those with underlying health conditions.
There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventative actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases.
