Community Engagement
The Police Activities League (PAL) program provides interaction between police officers and the children who attend. It allows the youth (aged 5 to 15) to see an officer, who is out of uniform, as a person; creating an opportunity to build better relationships. Each night participants will be able to choose from various athletic events like baseball, kickball, dodge-ball, or arts and crafts activities. A free PAL t-shirt will be awarded to each participant.
Come join your friend and officers from the Foley Police Department, Rice Police Department, and Benton County Sheriff's Office for this fun and free program.
PAL is held Thursday nights from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm from June through mid-July at the Foley Lion's Park and from mid-July through August at the Rice Lion's Park.
A Youth Snowmobile Safety Course is offered at the Benton County Sheriff's Office each winter. The Online youth snowmobile safety training class is an introductory class designed primarily for the snowmobile rider with little or no experience in snowmobile operation.
Students obtain and study the safety information on the interactive online course at their own pace in the comfort of their own home under the guidance of a parent or guardian. Depending on the youth’s age and experience, the online course should take approximately 2-4 hours to complete.
Once they complete the online course, students print out a “youth follow-up voucher” and register for a one day Snowmobile Safety class in their area. The one day class includes classroom review of priority safety information and a performance driving course. A fee of up to $5.00 may be collected by the instructor for any fees they incur to conduct the class. Each student will also pay an on-line DNR fee of $5.00 upon completion of the course.
A Youth ATV Safety Course is taught by certified instructors each fall at the Benton County Sheriff's Office. In Minnesota, ATV operators born after July 1, 1987 and OHM riders under the age of 16 are required to complete an approved safety course before riding on public lands.
